Why Relaxation is Important
Stress isn’t a bad thing as it helps us to deal with hard situations that come up in our everyday lives. Physical changes in your body happen, like tension in your body, to take action against the problem in front of you for a short period of time. If that tension from stress is held for too long, it will be damaging to your mental and physical health. Some of those symptoms can include, but not limited to: fatigue, headaches, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, or irritability.
That’s why relaxation is so important for us. Taking time to relax allows for us to take a step back from our hectic lifestyles and adjust our footing to ground ourselves to handle stress in the future better. Relaxing can help you to quiet your mind to make you feel peaceful and calm.
How Much Time You Need to Relax
The amount of time you need to relax varies from person to person, but it’s recommended that you should have four to five hours of relaxation daily. That time can be broken up throughout the day or you can spend it as a block of time in your day. It could be as simple as taking a nap with a weighted blanket to relieve stress or watching your comfort TV show for an hour to have a laugh.
The Best Activities for National Relaxation Day
When trying to figure out what you want to do to relax, you should find activities that re-energize you. Going out with friends might make for a fun night, but if it’s going to leave you sluggish the next day it might not be the best thing for you when you’re feeling burnt out. Taking a relaxation day can mean a lot of things for different people. To relax means to calm the mind and/or body. So, you should try to find activities that help you feel peaceful in your mind and/or body to re-energize.
Relaxation can be split into three different categories: emotional, physical, and spiritual
When deciding what you should do for National Relaxation Day, you should be finding activities that will help you calm down and feel at peace. Finding the balance between the three categories mentioned previously can help you to be grounded in your everyday life when your commitments can get hectic. Finding peace can take some time to find what activities work best for you. That could be finding a new hobby you enjoy or relaxing on the couch with a weighted blanket. Whatever you need to do to relax, do it!

- Take a walk
- Breathing exercises
- Prioritizing getting 8 hours of sleep
- Go fishing
- Mow the lawn
- Go kayaking

It’s important for you to have restorative sleep each night to avoid burnout. You might find yourself tossing and turning, possibly struggling with insomnia. You can’t start National Relaxation Day or any day for that matter feeling tired. You might want to think about getting yourself a weighted blanket. They are literally heavy blankets that have therapeutic benefits from the additional weight. This can help your body feel safe and can lower anxiety, alleviate some chronic pain, and provide you better sleep. Using a weighted blanket can help you to boost your mood and strengthen your concentration. This will help you to be well rested to do better work the next day and overall live a happier life.
Everyone needs to take time to recuperate their minds and bodies every once in a while. There’s nothing selfish about needing to take a relaxation day. It will help you to do your job better and be there for your friends and family.
Being present in your everyday moments is going to make your life better. It’s time to start taking relaxation time regularly starting on National Relaxation Day, August 15th. Putting relaxation time into your routine will make you a better person and live a happier life.
